BSDN Community Guidelines

This community exists to foster connection, belonging, and support for Black, Afro-Latin, and African expats in Da Nang. While all are welcome at the events, the WhatsApp groups prioritze those that identify with the previously mentioned backgrounds.

To keep this space safe and welcoming for everyone, we ask that members:

[1]

Lead With Respect

We represent many cultures, identities, and perspectives. It is not appropriate to make generalized statements about any one culture / race / ethnicity / etc.

Disrespect, harassment, hate speech, discrimination, antagonistic comments, sexually explicit content & violence will not be tolerated.

BSDN is a space for connection and belonging. While many of us care deeply about global issues, this group is not a debate forum. Conversations that become divisive or hostile may be redirected or removed to protect the community’s energy.

[2]

Protect Privacy

Do not share private conversations publicly.

Respect members’ boundaries.

Do not send unsolicited direct messages to other members or take phone numbers or other contact information from the group without being invited or prompted. Replying privately to messages related to a topic being discussed publicly is allowed within reason.

Feel free to use the block feature at your discretion for unwanted contact.

[3]

Content Creation Policy

BSDN events are designed to be safe, welcoming, and community-centered spaces.

To respect the comfort and privacy of all attendees, professional content creation - including photography, videography, interviews, or social media content for business or promotional use, is not permitted without prior approval from the BSDN team.

Casual photos and videos for personal use are welcome, but we ask that you are mindful of others and obtain consent before capturing or sharing identifiable images.

If you’re interested in creating content at a BSDN event, please reach out in advance for approval.

[4]

No Aggressive Selling or Spam

Sharing helpful resources is welcome.

Many of you have businesses that we love supporting. Self-promotion is allowed 1x per month or when requested by another member, but MUST INCLUDE PRICING. Please limit your promotional posts to 1x per month in a maximum of 2 chats.

You may sell personal items, but MUST include all pricing in your post.

Service providers (braiders, massage therapists, trainers, etc.) MUST share a menu with prices and offer consistent pricing for all BSDN members.

Using the group primarily for sales or solicitation is not.

If something falls in the gray area, check with admin first.

[5]

Handle Conflict Maturely

If there’s a disagreement:

• Address it privately when possible.

• If you cannot resolve the matter privately, directly message an admin for assistance. When appropriate, we will remove the offending parties.

• Conflicts should only be brought directly to the chat when there is a clear and immediate danger to someone's physical safety.

• Admins will provide the appropriate updates to the chat.

We prioritize community over ego.

If you need to contact legal authorities, police/emergency/embassy contacts can be found here.

[7]

Admin Discretion

To protect the safety and cohesion of the community, admin reserves the right to remove posts or members that violate these guidelines.

Event Posting Guidelines

The guidelines below are intended for events not hosted or co-hosted by BSDN. If you would like to co-host an event through the group, please complete this form.

Event Guidelines
  1. Please check with an Admin before posting an ad for an event that is being hosted by a group other than BSDN and/or for your personal profit.

  2. When posting an event, be sure to introduce yourself & mention if there is an associated group hosting the event to avoid confusion. There are new members joining constantly so language like “join us at…” or “we’re hosting” can lead members to believe you are referring to a BSDN-hosted event. Please be sure the language is included in the text of your post, not just the linked flyer or website.

  3. When posting a ticketed event, all fees must be disclosed in your post. Noting “message me for pricing/ticketing details” is not allowed.

  4. Event posts are limited to 2x per event or when requested.

  5. You’re welcome to link directly to your event or WhatsApp group, but please limit posts to 1x per month.
